The National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) is a national charity which aims to enhance the development and education of children in their early years, through the provision of support services to members. It seeks to develop, encourage and maintain high standards in education and care for the benefit of the children, their families and their local communities.

NDNA support day nursery providers to deliver quality childcare and early years education. NDNA provide support to members through newsletters, helpline, publications, briefing papers, member forums and regional and national networking. NDNA works with national government to campaign for high quality early years care and education delivered by a strong day nursery sector.

NDNA Cymru
The office is based in Denbighshire. The National Development Manager for Wales is responsible for developing the infrastructure of NDNA Cymru as well as representing the sector at Welsh Assembly Government and other strategic meetings.

The purpose of NDNA Cymru’s work in CWLWM is to support the workforce development needs of the sector, and raise the profile of childcare as a profession. NDNA Cymru will do this by:

  • Working with other childcare organisations in Wales to develop 2000 DVD’s and a bilingual booklet re Working in Childcare. The leaflet and DVD will assist in promoting the diversity of the workforce including men in childcare and promoting older people to work in the childcare sector. The project will empower people to choose a career in childcare and encourage new workers into the sector.
  • Appointing a Skills Review Co-ordinator who will identify training and development needs, skills gaps, provision available/unavailable, and needs within the childcare sector. The Skills Review Co-ordinator will create action plans from the skills reviews to identify gaps in training and development, and other workforce development needs.

NDNA Cymru’s CWLWM work will result in:

  • Raising the profile of childcare as a profession.
  • Supporting the development of skills to meet identified gaps and improve skills levels to meet current and future demands on the childcare workforce.
