The National Childminding Association (NCMA) is the only national charity and membership organisation that speaks on behalf of registered childminders in England and Wales. NCMA promote quality registered childminding so that children, families and communities can benefit from the best in childcare and education.
Working in partnership with the Government and the Welsh Assembly Government, local authorities, and other childcare organisations, NCMA aim to ensure that every registered childminder has access to services, training, information and support to enable them to provide a high quality childcare service.
Founded by childminders, parents and local authority workers, NCMA has grown into a unique, professionally staffed organisation with childminders involved at all levels. NCMA has a thriving membership of registered childminders, parents and local authorities. All NCMA childminders work towards 10 Quality Standards, which cover all aspects of childminding.
The purpose of NCMA’s work in CWLWM is to consider how to better support Welsh language and bilingual childminders in Wales, and how to support more childminders to provide services through the medium of Welsh. The research will examine the scale and characteristics of the Welsh and bilingual home-based childcare market in Wales, and the demand for, and nature of, the support needed within the workforce. Additionally, NCMA will research the number of childminders who would, given the right support, like to learn how they could introduce the Welsh language into their setting.
NCMA’s CWLWM work will result in:
